    My Name is...

Post by Faith Wynters on Fri Jun 28, 2013 8:30 pm

This is a more modern twist on Singing in the Rain.

You grew up poor in a big town in Michigan. All your life you’ve struggled with poverty. You wanted so badly to be a rapper when you got older that you started from the bottom. You got into drugs along the way, had a child, and even went to rehab a few times. Even after all that, however, you’ve made it big. You are top of the charts now, getting multi-platinum albums. You recently began a tour across the United States and you are living your biggest dream. You are on the top of your game.

I am not so successful. I don’t rap, I don’t have a record deal, and I am very much unknown in the world of music. It’s not that the music I create isn’t good; I just “don’t have the stage personality to cut it” I make music because it’s what I love to do. So, instead of touring the country, making millions of dollars, I am stuck working in a Diner by day and a Bar by night, just to make ends meet.

We tie together in a not-so perfect way. I was at one of your world-famous concerts with a friend. Now I don’t find you musically majestic in the least. In my opinion, you have no idea what makes music so great. Even though I feel that way, I’m still a fan. Of course, I’m not a die-hard fan like my friend, Jelina, but I listen to your music because, in a way, (as sickening as it sounds) the lyrical context of some of your songs is mesmerizing.

After the concert, Jelina heads off with one of her ‘friends’ and I am left alone for the night. Of course, I’ve taken off work expecting that I will have a friend, but such a thing does not happen. Being alone, I decide to take a shortcut around the stage to walk to the Subway.

You decide to take a smoke break after the concert. After hours of moving around and rapping, you just want to sit down somewhere and relax. After I’ve made it over the fence and through a small wooded area. I don’t stop to smoke, but I take a seat on the steps that lead to the door backstage. Unbeknownst to you, you open the door, hitting me hard on the back of the head.

Your first reaction is to freak out before rushing down the steps to see if I’m okay. In the same, freak-out mode, I just act like I don’t know you. I push off any help that you might offer, trying to stumble away. I seem a little rude, but I’m not one of the girls that swoon over you. You’re not sure what to think of this. You’ve never met a girl that doesn’t know who you are and isn’t all over you, and for some reason, you’re not sure what to think of it. So, instead of having your smoke and going back inside, you follow me.

Beginning: You’re about to head out for the smoke, and I’m making my trek through the wooded area.

    Name: Mira La’Mar
Nicknames: Mira really doesn’t have any nick names. One of her friends used to call her Lemur.
    Gender: Female
    Species/Race: Human; Caucasian
    Age: Twenty-Five
    Birthday: November 21st
Zodiac: Scorpio-- Scorpios are the most intense, profound, powerful characters in the zodiac. Even when they appear self-controlled and calm there is a seething intensity of emotional energy under the placid exterior. They are like the volcano not far under the surface of a calm sea; it may burst into eruption at any moment. But those of us who are particularly perceptive will be aware of the harnessed aggression, the immense forcefulness, magnetic intensity, and often strangely hypnotic personality under the tranquil, but watchful composure of Scorpio. In conventional social gatherings they are pleasant to be with, thoughtful in conversation, dignified, and reserved, yet affable and courteous; they sometimes possess penetrating eyes which make their shyer companions feel naked and defenseless before them.
    Place of Birth: Arkansas
Current Residence: At the moment…A shitty apartment in New York
    Occupation: Waitress and Bartender

    Physical Characteristics

    Height: 5’5”
    Hair Color: Black
    Hair Style:
    Spoiler:
    Eye Color: Blue
Distinguishing Marks: Mira has a scar forever on her tummy. She had been in the junkyard one day and got cut by a bit of glass.
General Appearance: Mira has very creamy, pale skin. Her lips are rather red and are usually the first thing people comment on.
    Spoiler:
Clothing (For the beginning of the roleplay): Click Here
Tattoo: She has a tattoo like this one on her wrist. She got it when she graduated college:
    Tattoo:

    Mental Characteristics

Goal: Mira wants to make a living doing what she loves.
Hobbies: Mira plays the Saxophone, guitar, bassoon, and sings. She likes to read, listen to music, run, play tennis, take photos, and do Suduko puzzles.
Personality: Mira is quiet and reserved around people. She doesn’t easily open up to people. She tries to be sweet and kind, but some people, she can’t keep a harsh tongue away. If you aggravate her, expect a not-so pleasant response from her. She prefers her music than talking to people, but she is very flexible with the way she acts around people. In her current situation, anything could happen with her.

Background: Mira was very good at playing her instruments. She went to school in New York and got a degree in performing arts in music. Once she graduated, there was much that she could do, but not much to do while she still had school debts. It wasn’t much, but enough that made her have to get a few jobs to pay for everything. After a while, Mira went to a few interviews to get a record deal. They loved her tapes, but she was boring on stage. So now she plays on the side and works, writes music, and just lives a normal life.

Family: Mira was very close to her adopted family. Being adopted at a young age, she was very much part of the family. A nice couple that adopted her couldn’t have children so she was their only child. When Mira was a few month from turning seventeen, she got caught up in high school. Mostly the boys and girls. She had a boyfriend of almost a year before she left him and Arkansas for school. He was a particularly good boyfriend, but sometimes had violent outbursts toward others, sometimes including Mira.

    Name: Alix "White Boy" Labe
    Hometown: Windsor, Michigan
Age: Alix is 26, but he feels that through his hard trials, he is much wiser than his age would imply.
Hair color: Usually light brown, but in direct sunlight it is almost blonde.
Facial features: Alix has a mole on the right side of his neck, and a light cut through his left eyebrow, presumably from an accident from his childhood.
    Eye color: Hazel
Body Build: Alix is what most people would call, "Normal"; he doesn't work out and isn't worried about muscles, but he gets worked enough during the concerts that he doesn't have to worry about his size.
Clothing: Like most of the modern rappers, he doesn't really care what he looks like.
He wears a plain black t-shirt and a baggy jeans. His shoes are normal "Wal-mart" shoes. nothing fancy. He despises "bling" though he does wear a watch on his left arm.
    Ethnic background: Caucasian
Background: When you grow up poor as dirt, you usually stay in the dirt. You don't go anywhere, don't even try. My mother was a drunk and I was a bastard, and Windsor sucked. We had no money, food, and we barely had a trailer to call "home". like a lot of people in Windsor, we lived in the ghetto, which is probably the biggest reason that I became involved in rap, along with all of the drugs and gangs. Around eighth grade i had decided that I wanted to do music, specifically rap. From that day on I was always thinking of songs, lyrics, and beats. Once I got out of high school I began working a one of the local car repair shops to help bring in money since it was obvious that my mother couldn't stand half of the time.
I later than started trying to get a recording deal with music producers and others, but was constantly shot down because i was white. Not long afterwards, I gave up and got into some heavy drugs. During my years in rehab I decided to give it another shot and after a few years it worked out and got a shot and now after all the pain and trouble i'm rich and trying to help the community that I grew up in.

It was cool. The darkness of the night was very good at cooling the area. I was cursing not bringing a jacket, but when you were packed in with thousands of people, you didn’t need a jacket. Now, being alone and walking through the woods, one would have been appreciated.

I take in a slow breath as I wrap my arms around my body. I know very well how long it’ll take me to get to the Subway. I just hope that I won’t get stuck in the city for the night. I couldn’t afford a taxi and I had work in the morning.

“Damn Jelina” I mutter the words as I make it through the last bit of brush. I know very well where I am. I’m sure that Labe is gone along with all the people that would probably have me arrested for trespassing. So, I take my time, not worrying about much more than the cold and my feet. Heels are for the dangerous when you go to concerts. I was one of those women that did just that. I take in a deep breath, watching a moment as the silence seems to spread across the small area.

There seemed to be no one, not even a janitor. I take slow steps, walking quietly towards the Subway. I could have made it, if I hadn’t fallen on my face. One moment I’m walking perfectly fine, the next, I trip on a bit of wood and down I go. My curses are louder than they should be.

“Ow” The word slowly crawls from my lips as I pull myself up. My ankle…I take in a slow breath before looking around. I just needed to rest for a little bit. I had to say, by now; the high of the concert was gone. I was just glad that I hadn’t paid for the tickets. Jelina had bought a set for us. Now I was left alone, like always. I just hoped I wouldn’t have to venture out to find her later when she got drunk and freaked out.

I spot a set of stairs leading to a door nearby. I was in an area that I knew I needed to get out of, but each step I take makes my ankle buckle on me. I just needed a few minutes to rest before continuing on my journey. So, instead of doing the smart thing and walking away, I force myself to limp to the wooden steps, turning slowly and taking a seat.

I sigh as I walk towards the back of the stage. The smile that stayed on my face while I was performing, was gone now and was replaced by a a tired, worn down one. My bones ached and I was sweating from all the energy I had put into the concert tonight. I feel hands patting my back and see smiling faces that seem to be moving, but already I had tuned out the noise and thought of only one thing at the moment. A cigarette.
Again I sighed as my "manager" walks up hold his favorite freaking thing in the world. His phone.
"Guess what I just scored you Alix? Another concert in a few days! Right outside Dallas! Isn't it great?!" He looks at me expectantly with that look that someone who always seems to want money had and waited.
"Great..." I said, not really in the mood for another one of his never ending conversations. "I'm going to smoke. Get me some alone time?" I ask, hoping that he'd do it.
"Of course, man!" He said before stalking off, not caring to find out why I looked so shitty, though I guess that's what happens when you try to bring a good friend of yours on to help manage. They stop seeing you as a friend and more of a personal bank, right?
I shook my head and continued to walk through the never ending crowd of stage crew and back-up dancers until I reached the door to the back of the building. "Finally" I thought as I reached for the handle, turned it, felt the cool night, and.... heard a thud?

It would have been fine sitting there in the silence of the night, listening to my own breathing. Everything could have turned out fine. I could have gotten up and walked away. A deep breath pulls through my lungs as I begin to quietly sing to myself. Taking only a single moment I slip my heel off, flexing my foot. Each step I had taken had caused my feet to hurt and now that I was off of them, they burned and seemed to hurt more. What I was mainly engaged in was my ankle though and the more I turned it and stretched it, the less and less it hurt.

After about five minutes, I feel like I’ve gotten most of the pain worked out. It wasn’t bad, just the kind of twist one might get when stepping on their foot wrong. I lean down to place my shoe on my foot when I feel something strike me out of nowhere. I don’t seem to fully comprehend that I’ve been hit until I feel the gravel beneath my body. A quiet groan escapes my lips as I reach for the back of my head.

“Just what I need” The muttering is quiet as I close my eyes. It sounded like a door opening maybe, but I hadn’t really thought about it at the time. It felt like the back of my head was pulsing ever so violently. I take in a deep breath before letting my body relax a little bit on the ground. I still wasn’t completely sure what had happened, but damn, whatever it was hit me hard.

My brow wrinkles as hear I hear a thud and a silent groan. I open the door more slower now, curious on what I had hit. I scan the ground until I see the body of a woman laying in the gravel. I stop moving out of shock, but snap out of it and rush towards the girl.
"Ma'am, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" I began to worry as I kneel beside her. "Are you alright?"
While sitting there and looking at the girl I wonder how hard I had actually hit her and if I should take her to the hospital. "Ma'am, can you hear me?" I curse under my breath as I see her body relax.
I turn around and see he heel on the ground behind me near the door and raise myself to go and retrieve it. Again I curse. I had to have hit her pretty damn hard to knock her shoe off. I stay crouched beside the girl for a moment, before standing and running my hand through my hair. The last thing I needed on my plate was a lawsuit. "Ma'am, if you don't say something, I'll have to take you to a hospital."

Before I know what’s happening, I hear another voice. It sounds strangely familiar in the quiet. I take a moment before pulling myself up. The last thing I needed was not only a hospital bill but an ambulance charge as well. By the time I turn my head to look at the shoes on the man’s feet, he’s gotten up from where his voice had been right in my ear moments before.

“Where’s my shoe?” Those were the first words that came from my lips. I could feel my bare foot in the gravel beneath me. I just wanted my shoe and to get out of here. I look up as the question flows from my lips. A breath gets caught in my lips; Jelina was going to kill me. I take in a deep breath, pushing myself off the ground.

Of course, I was faced with the same artist I had just watched all night long. Once I’m on my feet, I reach down, brushing the dirt off my knees. I look at him a moment. Anger. That’s the emotion I feel. I watch him another moment before looking back to the still-open door. I can only assume that’s what hit me.

“Did you have to throw yourself on the door?” I grumble, reaching forward and snatching the shoe from his hand. I knew what I would do. Instead of getting escorted out by security, since they would probably assume I was one of his psycho fans, I would act like I didn’t know him. Then I could maybe continue on my way to the Subway and get home before this night got any more exciting.

I reach down, bringing my bare foot up. After taking a moment to brush the dirt off, I slip the shoe on, zipping it up. It no longer pained from the one fall I had already encountered. I take a short breath, looking at him one more time before turning and walking away.

I looked at her with a quizzical look. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, or hearing. Did this girl really not know who I was? How could she not and be at the back door of my concert? My mouth was partially open as I listened to her speak.
"The... door sticks?" I manage to get out before she grabs her shoe from my loose hand. It was obvious from her body language she was angry, but who could blame someone for being mad about something like that, yet most girls would be happy to get hit by a door if that meant being able to at least talk to me. It seemed obvious that she was either play dumb, or really didn't know me. Maybe this wasn't the first time she has been hit by something on the head?
I watch her put the shoe on and turn around. She had begun to walk away before I was able to concentrate enough to ask her. "Do you need a ride? I could give you a ride to wherever it is you're wanting to go. Hospital, or your house?"

I could have said so many things to the man that had been staring, dumbfounded at me. Most of the things though, weren’t pertaining to this incident, but to his music. I wanted to hit him with one of my heels and tell him that he was no more a musician than I was a doctor! I take in a slow breath as he calls out after me. I didn’t know why he was so hell-bent on offering me a ride. He was just another Hollywood asshole that was probably just trying to keep from getting sued.

“I’ll take the Subway” I hear myself yell back at him without thinking. Yes, a ride would have been nice, but I was not going to lower myself down to some sickening groupie status to get a ride. I had heard his music; I knew some of the taboo and dirty things he rapped about. I take in a deep breath before swallowing. I was careful with each step, knowing very well that I still had eyes on my back. I wasn’t even sure if I would take the straight way back to my apartment. I might stop at the diner for a very late dinner before heading home. Either way, I needed to get out of here.

The problem was, I had one more obstacle before I made is free from any kind of trespassing charges that still could land on me. A chain-link fence. I had already done It once before, just to get into the back area, but now, I would have to escape once more so I could go through the nearby park and down into the station. So, without much thought, I push my foot into one of the holes in the fence, forcing myself up.

I watch her walk towards the fence and snort out a laugh. "If you want I could take you to the entrance. There really is no reason to climb that fence, especially when you've already been caught, but if that's what you want to do then I guess there's no stopping you."
I began walking towards her as she starts he climb up the ten foot high fence. I'm still curious about this girl that is in front of me, but I'm not entirely sure why. Could it be because she isn't tackling me and demanding me to sign something? While most of the women I see now a days are always way to nice and affectionate it almost seems like this girl has hostility towards me.
I walk to the fence and lean on it beside where she is climbing. "Why not come down from there before you hurt yourself more. I can at least take you to the subway." I cross my arms and wait for her answer, doubting that she'd give me a yes.

He’s laughing at my actions, which seems to only fuel the hell-bent notions that I have. Of course he’s just another jerk. There was no denying that he was just trying to keep me from suing him. I clench the fence hard as he leans on it. It moves for a moment and I can’t keep from glaring down at him.

“You act like I haven’t done this a million times” I pull one leg over the top of the fence, being careful as I move my weight, making myself easily clutch the opposite side of the pole. He would never have guessed that I was afraid of heights by the way I was moving.

“Why don’t you just go back inside and clean the stadium. I’m sure they don’t pay you to tell me I can’t climb a damn fence” My words are sharp as I watch him through the metal. I wasn’t going to accept anything from him. I didn’t care if he had all the money in the world. He wasn’t a musician.

I see her glare and it makes me smile. She really did seem to dislike me, and the notion only makes my smile bigger. "If you've done this a million times, i'd like to know why? You could easily just go out the other way with no problems. Just simply say you were using the bathroom or say you work with stage crew and forgot your lanyard. Why go through the trouble of climbing the fence while wearing heels?" I ask as I watch her continue up the fence.
I was silent as she snapped at me, but moved off of the fence. "I don't clean-up, sorry." I said as the smile came off my face. I was beginning to become agitated at the girl, which took a lot. Why was she hostile? I offered her a ride, and help, but she is still angry with me. "Why are you so angry at me? Why would you be so mad at someone you don't even know, or do you know me and you're just trying to not show it?" I question her from the ground. "Tell me why." My face had gone serious now though my curiosity hadn't left.
    What was this girl thinking?

I take my time coming down the other side of the fence. It’s very obvious that this man is much more curious about me than I would have hoped. I just wanted to get out of here. He could still call the cops on me, and that was the one thing I didn’t want right now. By the time I’ve made it down the fence the smile is gone from his face. He watches me with intensity, wanting so badly to know why I was so hostile.

With both feet planted firmly on the ground, I watch him in silence. I was surprised I had been able to keep this up for so long. He’s starting to think that I know him and that my hostility is a defense mechanism. He’s kinda of hit the bull’s eye on the head, but I don’t let him know that.

“You did hit me in the head with a door” I hold up a finger. My features have softened, as if this fence keeps us separated enough that I don’t have to worry anymore. There was no reason to keep so angry…Well…there was, but right now I just wanted to get out of this without being taken away in handcuffs.

“Over three million people live in this city, why would I know one?” I bring my left arm up, gripping the fence. I move my eyes to the tattooed wrist for a moment before looking back to him. I open my mouth once more to say something, when there’s the sound of the door opening again. My eyes flit from Labe to the man that stands on the first wooden step.

“Alix? What are you doing?” His words break the silence that had fallen once again. I look back to him a moment before shaking my head.

    “I should probably go.”

I watch the girl's feet touch the hard slowly then moved my eyes up her body. I wasn't known for gazing at women but I was a man. I half listen know to her remarks knowing by now that she was one of the persistent and stubborn types of women. I smile to myself at the thought. I barely hear the door open and it only registered in my mind after I hear his voice.

"Alix? What are you doing?" I grit my teeth together and sigh.

"Hey, wait what's your number?" I whisper through the fence knowing that i'd most likely be rejected. At the moment my manager wasn't on my list of priorities, and he could wait. "Don't worry about him. He won't call security. At least he wont as long as I tell him not too."

"Alix! Hey!" I hear behind me. I feel my face heat up.

"Hold one Gabe... Just give me a minute okay?" I said without turning around.

"Okay just... don't take too long?" I hear before a slight bang. I know later he'll give me the cold shoulder, but I'm not in the mood to care tonight.

I can’t help the quiet laugh as he asks for my number. It was like we were in school again. I roll my eyes a moment before looking him over again.

“I actually don’t have a cell phone.” It wasn’t a lie; it was the dead truth. At this moment, with the bills and the loans, I couldn’t afford a phone. It wasn’t something that was on the top of my priorities right now. I watch him another moment. He was trying hard. He was trying to get away from all this.

I can’t help but peak around the figure in front of me to see the man calling after him. I giggle quietly at the sight before looking to him once more. I shake my head, looking past the top of the fence and into the dark sky. You couldn’t see the stars because of the lights, but it was a sight.

“Looks like mommy’s getting her panties twisted” I speak, still looking up into the dark blue of the night. Maybe… I shake my head; what a stupid idea. I look back at the man; I can tell he’s trying hard just to forget everything.

“Why don’t you just hop the fence and come with me? Looks like you might need to get away from this for a while; whatever this is” I frown slightly, looking past him once again to the now-closed door. “If you’re too busy with Mommy, I understand” I smirk, turning and starting off towards the next street. I knew he probably wouldn’t take me up on my offer, but hell, what’s life if you don’t take chance?

I listen to her giggle, and laugh myself. "Who doesn't own a phone?" I ask with a smile on my lips. I hear her dare me to just leave. To just forget it all for a little while and my eyes began to stop focusing as my I began to seriously think about the offer. I look up at the sky after her with a frown on my lips. Why do humans have ruin things that are so beautiful?

I sigh as I grab the fence with both my hands and began to climb. "I'll take you up on your offer. No reason not too, plus I think my mommy will be fine for a little bit." I wonder what her response will be = to me agreeing. I know she wasn't being serious about me coming along, and that was one of the reasons I was doing it.

"So, what is it you do, for a living?" I ask as I reach the top and stick my leg over the side and start on my way down. I know that I shouldn't be getting involved with this girl, but for once I was tired with my new life and wanted to not be known, even if that meant by one girl... even if she was pretending.

By the time I hear the fence moving it’s too late to stop him. I stop where I am, eyes wide, flush covering my cheeks. What had I just done? I hadn’t been serious about this whole thing. No- I had actually been hoping that he would go away faster. I have to stifle the groan and I must keep myself from rolling my eyes as I turn around and watch him climbing the fence.

“You’re a pro at that fence climbing” I watch him another moment before being unable to stop myself from rolling my eyes. I take in a deep breath before turning. There was nowhere to run now. I couldn’t hide behind the fence. I grit my teeth, taking in a very long, deep breath. I almost stop walking when he asks me about my living. He’s still trying to force himself over the fence. I can’t help but shake my head, turning and walking backwards as he lands on his feet.

“I’m a waitress slash, bartender slash, musician on the side” I have come to a halt now, watching him a moment. I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep walking in these heels, backwards. “And with both of my jobs I do not have a phone, thank you very much” I nod my head at him, folding my arms over one another. “So, since you’ve decided to completely skip over the basics; what’s your name janitor boy?”

I smirk at her remark of my abilities to climb fences and hop down. "Maybe you'd be good too if you weren't wearing heels?" I say as I check my pants for rips. I frown when I see a little tear in the left knee. I guess that meant I needed another shopping trip. I began to drift off into memories about my past shopping trips. Girls following me everywhere, watching me shop, hoping i'll talk to them but happy with being that close to me.

I Almost her response on her career. "Oh, you like music? Maybe I could hear some one day?" I ask with a light smile on lips. "Of course, if you're shy I understand." I say hoping that it would just make her more determined to prove herself. "You're very... interesting. Not many women have ever made me stop and think them over, and it's not your looks that do it. That's not saying you don't look fantastic." I stutter at the end, trying to end the sentence without seeming like an ass or too stupid.

I sigh as I turn towards the opposite side of the street and put my hands on the back of my head. "Anyway, where too?"

I feel my lip start to poke out a little bit at his comment. I had climbed the fence just fine! I watch as he looks himself over, muttering something underneath his breath once he noticed a little tear. I can’t help but roll my eyes. Of course his clothes had to be the best. I continue to walk as he talks about my being a musician. I can’t help but shake my head to him.

“I wouldn’t let you listen to my music if you paid me” There’s venom on my tongue as I turn on him. He was starting to wander into dangerous territory. Each word he spoke seemed to make him seem more and more conceited. I take in a deep breath, shaking my head.

“Well don’t you have all the girls drooling over you”
I can’t help but add “asshole” under my breath as I make it to the sidewalk. The other side of the street was a park that I would walk through to get to the old 50’s style diner. Then after that, I would be taking the subway to the lower end of the city to my apartment.

“I am not walking another foot with you if you don’t tell me your name” He seemed to have just overlooked the fact that I had already asked him once. I fold my arms over one another, pushing out one of my hips. I watch him a moment, holding out my right hand for a shake. “I’m Mira La’Mar”

I can tell i'm beginning to annoy her on at least one level. I look over at her while she spits venom through her words, and the not so well hidden curse. I sigh as I try to collect my thoughts. "My name is Alix. Nice to meet you Mira." I say sticking out my hand and grasping hers in mine. I shake it up and down a few times while I roll her last name around in my mouth.

"Is your name french?" I ask before letting it go. "It's a very pretty name by the way." I say before I stand quiet for a minute. "Why wouldn't you listen to your music? I'm sure with a voice like yours, it'd sound beautiful." I say with a smile.

I didn't know if my 'moves' were working, or if they were 'moves' at all. While I wait for her response I walk towards the bench on my left side and sit down. "Sit down if you want..." I say while patting a part of the bench on my left.

“It’s a pleasure, I’m sure “I couldn’t help but see how awkward he was. Every movement and smile in an attempt to draw me closer just pushed me father away. He was acting too much. He just needed to let go and be himself. He was expecting more from himself and from me.

“I do music on the side; it’s a hobby”
I speak quietly, watching him as he walks over to a bench, sitting down silently. I knew music wasn’t a hobby; it was my life. I breathed it and lived it. There was nothing I would have rather done more right now. I take in a slow breath, looking around as he sits on a bench.

“Hey, you wanna go get a burger? I know a really good diner; the milkshakes are great” I feel my pockets a moment before thinking over my money a moment. “I think I can afford it in my budget” I speak quietly, more to myself than to him. I watch him silently, I wasn’t going to sit on this bench with him and waste my time. I wanted to get home at some sort of a decent hour.

I look over to her at the mention of a milkshake and nod. "I haven't had a decent milkshake in awhile... Let's do it." I say before standing from the bench, and stretching. "I'm buying, and i'm not taking no for an answer. I gotta make up for hitting you in the head somehow right?" I say with a small smile. "Besides I don't need money..." I say losing my smile. I hoped that she wasn't seeing me as snobby by saying those things. That wasn't my intention; There are too many snobby people in the world as it is.

"Are you in school?" I ask more trying to make conversation then anything. I was pretty sure that she wasn't in collage or she would be there right now, not at a place like this. The nearest 'good' collage was a couple hundred miles from here. "Lead the way. I'm curious to see this 'amazing restaurant of yours." I say with a playful smile and a light bow indicating for her to follow.

He says that he’s buying and I raise a hand up in protest before he silences me. I would not take charity. I did not need it. I could very well pay for my own food. I did not need someone to help me; especially not this man. I take in a deep breath as he questions me. I can tell now that he’s just trying to make conversation. I sigh quietly; did I look like I was still in college? Probably.

“No. I got out less than a year ago” I speak, smiling quietly as I turn, walking slowly to the edge of the road. He tells me to lead the way but before he can finish, I’m out in the street, almost across. I was running faster than I probably had ever run in heels before.

“Looks like you’ll need to catch up”
Cars separated us now and I laughed as I watched him on the other side of the street. My heart was pumping and I was giggling quietly. I had probably almost gotten hit a few times, but it was a rush and I didn’t care too much about it.

I jump back startled as Mira ran past me. I laughed as I see her weaving and hear the cars blaring their horns. "Don't you worry. I ran track in high school!" I lied as I began running toward her not worrying about the cars. I may not have ran track, but my concerts have helped my lungs and made my respiratory system strong.

"Let's see who is winded first hmm?" I say as I run up beside her. "I don't see how you managed not to get killed with those shoes!" I say bursting in laughter as I slow down beside her. "take 'em off. There's no Shame in not wearing them." I say with a smile. I was actually having fun and find myself giggling right alongside her, or as close to giggle as possible.

"Man by the time we get there I know i'll be wanting that milkshake." I say before my stomach growls. "Maybe I'll even get a burger." I say putting my hand on my stomach with a smile.
