    SCP Article 354

Post by Faith Wynters on Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:44 pm

    Item#: SCP-354

Object Class: Keter (Follow all containment instruction)

    Special Containment Procedures:
Due to SCP-354's immobile nature, Area-354 has been built around it. Area-354 houses forces and D-class personnel prepared to deal with threats emerging from SCP-354, as well as researchers studying SCP-354 and its properties. For their own safety, no on-site personnel are to approach SCP-354 at any time. Direct interaction with SCP-354 is permitted only for the purpose of research to eliminate SCP-354 and must be approved by O5 personnel.

Area-354 was constructed to contain and neutralize any and all further threats emerging from SCP-354. At the heart of Area-354, a twenty (20) foot wall of concrete reinforced with [DATA EXPUNGED] has been constructed around SCP-354 to prevent emerging entities from escaping into the area at large. High-speed motion detection cameras are placed atop the wall looking down into the pool, and armed guards can easily shoot down into the enclosure from catwalks placed above the pool.

Description: SCP-354 is a pool of red liquid discovered in northern Canada. The liquid is of a consistency similar to that of human blood (hence the colloquial name Blood Pond) but is not of a biological nature. The pool does not have definite banks; soil mixes with the liquid until, at a certain point, there is more soil than liquid and the ground is mostly solid. The liquid becomes denser as one descends deeper into the pool; if the pool has a bottom, it has yet to be reached.

Periodically, entities emerge from the pool and attempt to escape from the enclosure. Thusfar, nearly all creatures emerging from SCP-354 have been extremely hostile and highly dangerous.

SCP-354 is believed to have been first discovered in ████ by survivors of a plane crash, who encountered SCP-354 by chance. SCP-354 had developed into a local urban legend long before Foundation personnel arrived to deal with the threat.

After locating the source of the legend, SCP personnel set up Watch Station Epsilon-38 to monitor the pool and to deter future travellers from finding it. SCP-354 was classified as Euclid until its properties were further discovered.

At 1403 hours on ████, an unidentified entity emerged from SCP-354. Contact with Watch Station Epsilon-38 was lost. Mobile Task Force ████ was dispatched to deal with the entity and were eventually successful. All personnel at Watch Station Epsilon-38 were found dead. Area-354 was subsequently constructed to contain SCP-354.

Document 354-1-a: Partial log of entities to have emerged from SCP-354 prior to Event 354-20.

SCP-354-1: Original entity which destroyed Watch Station Epsilon-38. Resembled a giant bat. Neutralized by Mobile Task Force ████.

SCP-354-2: Bear-sized mammalian creature covered in razor-sharp spines. Resembled an echidna. Was virtually bulletproof, but was unable to escape the enclosure surrounding the pool. Neutralized via napalm.

SCP-354-3: Black metallic sphere capable of levitation. Emitted concentrated levels of radiation in precisely directed beams sufficient to instantly cripple and later result in death. Then-Area Head Dr. ██████ struck SCP-354-3 with a sledgehammer, disabling it. SCP-354-3 then self-detonated, causing minor structural damage and severely wounding Dr. ██████. Dr. ██████ made a full recovery and has been commended for his bravery.

SCP-354-4: Humanoid reptilian creature, approximately 4.6m (15ft) tall. Escaped both the walled enclosure and Area-354 altogether. Gunfire caused very little physical harm and was highly ineffective. Mobile Task Force Omega-7 "Pandora's Box" was dispatched and was successful in neutralizing the creature.

    SCP-354-5: [DATA EXPUNGED]

SCP-354-6: Appeared to be a human male of Indian descent. As the enclosure around the pool had not yet been fully repaired, SCP-354-6 was immediately shot before it had a chance to escape. Area Head Dr. ██████ has expressed his displeasure in the rash execution of SCP-354-6, which testing revealed to be identical to an average human being.

SCP-354-14: Majority of creature's body remained well beneath the surface of the pool. Five (5) octopus-like tentacles were seen emerging from the pool and reached up over the enclosure. Several D-class personnel were grabbed by the tentacles and pulled back beneath the surface of the pool. After receiving massive damage from gunfire, SCP-354-14 retreated back into the pool and disappeared. No personnel taken by the creature were recovered.

SCP-354-15: Feline creature composed of a blue-hued crystalline structure later revealed to be ice. Was able to jump above the walled enclosure and was agile enough to dodge most gunfire. Was actively hostile and mauled any personnel that engaged it. Subject engaged SCP-354-16 upon its emergence from the pool and was terminated in the fight.

SCP-354-16: Feline creature composed of a dark red-black stone later revealed to be partially solidified magma. Gunfire proved mostly ineffective against its hide. Was not hostile to personnel and did not attempt to escape the walled enclosure until being engaged by SCP-354-15. Successfully terminated SCP-354-15 and grew less active as its body cooled. After fully solidifying and having remained motionless since, subject was moved to Dr. ██████'s office for aesthetic purposes.

SCP-354-18: Metallic humanoid machine described by several D-class personnel as a "Terminator." Subject posessed a cloaking device rendering it invisible to human eyes. Subject was highly adept at combat and killed nearly 90% of Area-354's guard personnel as it rampaged through the facility. Approximately sixty (60) minutes after emerging from the pool, subject ceased function and powered down. Subject was dismantled and its power cell was disposed of. Subject's remains are under study.

Note from Area Head Dr. ██████:[/b] It has been twenty-two months since the last entity emerged from the pool. Before this, the longest period of time between emergences was eight months. I suspect this means one of two things. Either the Red Pool has "died" or "powered down" or whatever the correct term for it is; or it is "charging up" for something big to come through. O5 believes the former is the most likely explanation, and has recalled 30% of our total personnel and cut 25% of our funding. While I can only hope that they are correct, if the latter situation is true, we're soon to face some terrible monstrosity and we won't have anywhere near the force necessary to deal with it. I worry for all of our safety.

    Document 354-4: Event Log 354-20
In the morning of [DATA EXPUNGED] the entire staff of Area-354 evacuated the facility. However, the staff also shut down power to the area and took a number of supplies and vehicles from the facility, indicating that the evacuation had not been done due to an emergency. Mobile Task Force Theta-12 was dispatched to investigate the cause of the evacuation and, if possible, make contact with Area's staff. However before MTF Θ-12 could make contact with Area-354 or its evacuees, the Area's on site warhead was detonated, resulting in the destruction of the entire facility and the deaths of [DATA EXPUNGED].

MTF Θ-12 was ordered to make contact with the evacuated personnel and, in the event of hostility, was given clearance to terminate any uncooperative personnel. A large convoy of vehicles taken from Area-354 was spotted heading southward from Area-354 at high speed. Final audio logs from MTF Θ-12 indicate that the convoy was made up of Area-354's staff, and that the previous chain of command had broken down in its entirety, with armed D-class personnel and research personnel firing upon MTF Θ-12. MTF Θ-12 was annihilated and no further contact with the former personnel of Area-354 has been made since.

Document 354-5: Following the total destruction of Area-354, the Red Pool Containment Site was constructed in its place. Basic maps of the new facility can be found in ████████-███-█ and ███-████-█████████. Unlike the previous facility which was focused on research and neutralization of entities emerging from SCP-354, the new facility is devoted entirely to the containment of SCP-354 and entities which may emerge from it, as well as any unforseen forces which it may create directly. This is due largely to the advisement of the new Site Head [DATA EXPUNGED] who believes that the events of Log 354-20 were the result of a psychic or mental attack generated by SCP-354 itself.

We are all personnel of SCP-354. For some of us, we come from other containment sites, for others, this is our first time on site with the SCP.  Any and all personnel on site are subject to routine psychiatric examination for the sake of the project.

Recently, there has been an increase in activity in and around the pool. While only one entity (similar to SCP-354-3, but much smaller) has left the pool into the containment area and was neutralized on sight, small vibrations and waves seem to emit from the pool in all directions which has caused for small concern.
By request of the Site Head, renewal of the examination and research of SCP-354 (on a small scale) has recently begun causing for the addition researchers around the small facility. The introduction of more D-class and containment personnel has led to cramped living quarters and recreation areas on their short off hours. Request for more prebuilt facilities to be brought in was denied on grounds of the unstable state of the pool. For now, the objective is to do your job: Secure, Contain, Protect.

I reserve the right to make slight changes to the role play. If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

For now, options of ‘roles’ I guess are:
Containment Crew Member: You are specifically in charge of making sure that  whatever comes out of the pool stays in the area. You are allowed to either contain or eradicate anything, whether be hostile or not in order to continue the safe environment of the facility. You are authorized any of the pre-accepted response team items in order to handle any entity that comes from the pool. After the containment of an entity, containment members are required to proceed to the decontamination process and a psychological evaluation afterwards.
Class-D Personnel: The lines between Containment and Class-D blur at most times. While maintaining security inside of the facility you are also responsible for assisting in containment in any possible way you can. You are authorized only to use the automatic rifle assigned to you unless complete security has been breached.
Researcher: You take samples, perform diagnostics, and find out all you can about the pool. When leaving the facility, it is required that there is at least one (1) Class-D personnel and two (2) members from Containment for any one (1) researcher near the pool at any time. A psychological examination is required of any returning from the pool.
And possibly the Site Head, but I’m not sure about that one yet.
NOTE: There can be more than one person on each role. Just remember, having just been changed from containment and eradication to research, there will be less researchers and more Containment and Class-D

I do plan on having a point in the role play where shit hits the fan so we aren’t just flat-lining the whole time. This is just a check to see who is interested in a roleplay like this one. I would love to get this place going again. Smile

Very interesting....I would likely desire to play a Containment Crew Member, though I have a couple of questions:

    1) What is the list of pre-approved equipment?
    2) How are the crew equipped?
    3) What's the chain of command?

Anyway, it was an entertaining read, and I congratulate you, haha Smile Looks interesting Smile

1/2) I was going to leave that much to imagination in a way, but also not (if that even makes any sense) Initially, the crew would only be equipped with a Beretta M9 and a taser. Following a breach from the pool more advanced weaponry would be used.
Some of the weapons would be things like: A flamethrower, a small scale electromagnetic pulse generator, grenades, napalm, and a grenade launcher with taser grenades. There can be more added on, but I want there to be no overpowering. There will be lives lost whether npc or roleplayer. Not all containment crew members will be able to obtain a flamethrower or grenades. The recent increase of crew members and Class-D has created a shortage in weaponry. I just need to trust everyone not to godmod as well.

While each crew member has been trained in the usage of all of these weapons, according to their 'rank' (I'll get to that in a bit) and the hostility of the entity only certain weapons will be available for usage. In the event of a severe containment issue, of course, anything can be used.

    3) Before the reintroduction of research into the facility, the crew was smaller. This is true for Containment and Class-D. For containment there were five crew members in charge of containing or eradicating anything the emerged from the pool. The numbers were even smaller for Class-D, being only three simply because the pool had been dormant for so long and their only real job was the maintenance of the facility and the security from trespassers. Because of the emergence of an entity, (resulting in the death of one containment member (via high concentration of radiation)) the introduction of six more containment crew members and five Class-D personnel was approved. For this reason, the previous few already at the compound are of higher 'ranking' than the others. There is really no rank because SCP realizes that high ranking status could cause problems between crew members and at most of their sites, the death of members is very numerous. There is one designated containment head, Class-D head, and research head, but below that, the rest are 'ranked' by their time here and their job, specified by their head.

I'm gong to keep going a little bit to possibly answer any more possible questions.

The number of researchers is also very small. Before their arrival, the head was appointed so there is no fight for power. There are six researchers in total, including the head. In a similar fashion to the other personnel, their jobs have been preassigned (but by SCP instead)

Now, the way that these personnel are picked are different. Most have worked on other projects, but do not know of it. For researchers, they were scientists before that 'disappeared', and now work for SCP.
Class-D however come from different walks of life. Rumors are that some are death-row inmates, others are homeless, ex-drug addicts, or even regular people, all with their memories erased. They are also sometimes used as test subjects for any research that may be needed to be done on a human subject. Some believe that the rumors were spread so researchers do not feel so sorry about their deaths if it were to happen.
For containment, however, no one is sure how they are picked. It is just assumed that they are chosen the same way that Class-D are chosen. Some seem to retain some memories of their past within their psychic evaluation, but others do not.

If there is no risk of escape by the specimen out of the pools area, the three heads will meet and discuss a plan of action. If the being is hostile, the path chosen can be determined by whether or not it can be incapacitated and moved into a containment cell. Mostly, it is up to Containment and research. If the specimen gets loose into the surrounding area or into the facilities, no meeting will be had and it is up to D-Class and Containment to simply eradicate the being with as few lives lost as possible.

The request for more weaponry or research material must be made, but it also will take at least one day to reach the facility if that is during the time of a containment break, then the drop will be postponed until the being has been dealt with and the death numbers have been received by SCP in order to send more personnel. You must remember that this facility is quite small. For that reason, you won't be able to find every single thing your character needs within the facility. Bi-weekly drops of food, hygienic equipment, and any unnecessary equipment will be made at the facility.

The facility is split up in some cases by gender and other cases by personnel. The small shower facility has been broken up between gender. Because of the small space for rest, the quarters are split into three sections for Research, Class-D, and Containment. There is one set of mass bathrooms (also split between gender) in the shower facility.

Phew! haha any more questions, just let me know Smile

Nope, I think you covered everything. I'm thinking of an original SCP Containment Team Member who has seen his fair share of creatures...probably a complete amnesiac save for a few snatches of memory. So....one more question, actually; if a creature has broken out and bullets aren't taking the b*****d down, are troops allowed to just go in and grab the big guns, or do they have to fill out a form in triplicate while everybody around them is dying?

"HEY! We need some FLAMETHROWERS HERE!"
"Have you filled out the necessary forms?"
    "I....what?"
"Here you are." *hands the soldier a five page long application form.* "That must be signed, dated and returned before we can release the flamethrowers to you."
*screams in the background as soldiers start dying*
*rattling gunfire that cuts off suddenly*
    "But..."
"Sorry sir. Those are the rules."
"Goddamn it, fine." *starts filling in form* "Medical History?! Why do you need to know if I'm allergic to anything?! And what does my religious beliefs have to do with asking for a goddamned flamethrower?"

    Lmao.

The process would depend on the situation. All paperwork is done after an occurance. While in some cases head approval would be needed to take any weapons from their designated weapon cases and locations, in other situations it would not be required. Paperwork done after the fact must include a description/examination results of any corpses or equipment, which weapons used to stop the entity, ect. But only after the situation has been handled.
